20230086852 · 2023-03-23 ·

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a method, an electronic device, and a computer program product for failure handling. This failure handling method includes determining a sector set failure type associated with at least one failed sector set of a disk; if the sector set failure type indicates that the number of failed sector sets in the at least one failed sector set is greater than a first threshold number, generating an instruction for replacing the disk; and otherwise performing at least one of the following: migrating data from a failed sector set in which the number of failed sectors is greater than a second threshold number to a spare sector set, and performing a failure recovery for a failed sector set in which the number of failed sectors is less than or equal to the second threshold number.

Data storage device having improved read failure tolerance

Systems and methods for improving read failure tolerance during read-modify-write operations of data storage systems accommodating a host that uses a logical sector of a size smaller than the physical sector size of the data storage system. In one embodiment, the data storage system can perform sector indirection in response to a read error during a read-modify-write command.

The technology disclosed herein pertains to a system and method for managing write failures in a disc drive. Implementations disclosed herein provide a method including monitoring write fault events per sector for a storage device, in response to a write fault event, updating a write fault repeat count table, wherein the repeat count table tracks a number of write fault repeat counts per sector, comparing a write fault repeat count for a sector to a predetermined threshold write fault repeat count, and in response to determining that the write fault repeat count for a sector is above the predetermined threshold write fault repeat count, performing a write-reassign operation.

A configuration for preventing a recording error when a data recording process is performed on both lands and grooves of an optical disc is realized. An information processing device includes a data processing unit configured to control a data recording process on both lands and grooves of an optical disc. The data processing unit performs a process of detecting or matching positions at which data recording states of grooves or lands on both sides adjacent to a data recording target land or groove match when data are recorded on the lands or the grooves. The data processing unit performs, for example, a dummy data recording process or a skipping process as the process of matching the data recording states of the grooves or the lands on both sides adjacent to the data recording target land or groove.

Magnetic disk device and control method for magnetic disk device

According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device includes a magnetic disk, a head and a controller. The head writes data to the magnetic disk and reads data from the magnetic disk. The controller once reads the data written to a predetermined recording area according to the number of writes of data to the predetermined recording area of the magnetic disk and rewrites the read data to the predetermined recording area. The controller adjusts an additive value to the number of writes based on the presence or absence of a defect on the recording surface of the magnetic disk.

According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device includes a disk, a head that writes data to the disk and reads data from the disk, and a controller that executes error correction on a first sector which is unreadable in a first track from an initial reading time of initially one-round reading the first track of the disk based on first parity data corresponding to the first track.

Information processing apparatus and access control method

Upon receipt of an instruction to access a logical address of a storage medium, an information processing apparatus controls access to its corresponding physical address of the storage medium. A management unit manages mapping between a continuous series of logical addresses and discrete physical addresses skipping a predetermined number of replacement areas. A controller identifies to which physical address the received logical address is mapped, and controls access to the storage medium using the identified physical address. When a defect occurs in a storage area indicated by a physical address, the information processing apparatus remaps its corresponding logical address to a replacement area adjacent to the defective physical address.

MANAGING READ AND WRITE ERRORS UNDER EXTERNAL VIBRATION

Systems and techniques for writing data to a Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) magnetic data storage device. At least one processor may determine whether the distance between a first data track and a second data track is less than a threshold distance. If the distance is less than a threshold distance, the at least one processor may cause a write head to refrain from writing to the sector of the second data track. The at least one processor may cause data from the first data track to be copied to another storage location and write data to the sector of the second data track.

Magnetic disk apparatus and data recording method

A magnetic disk apparatus of one of the embodiments stores read position dependency information on read signal quality of a data region at a first track and measures the read signal quality at a predetermined radial position in a second data region of a second track different from the first track. A positioning error of the second data region is determined based on the read position dependency information and the read signal quality at the predetermined radial position. Data is recorded in a recording target data region in a shingled recording so as to prevent data written in the second data region from being overwritten by data in a recording target data region adjacent to the second data region by using the determined positioning error.
