According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device incudes a first magnetic disk, a first actuator that reads/writes data from/to the first magnetic disk, a first controller that controls the first actuator, a second magnetic disk, a second actuator that reads/writes data from/to the second magnetic disk, a second controller that controls the second actuator, wherein the first controller executes read/write processing, and the second controller stores trace data of the read/write processing when the first controller executes the read/write processing.
Electronic communication device, magnetic disk device and serial communication method
An electronic communication device includes a controller which controls, according to the number of bit data in which an error has occurred of packet data transferred in serial communication, whether to start logging of information about the error of the packet data or stop logging of information about the error of the packet data.
Identifying a defect in a data-storage medium
An embodiment of a data-read path includes a defect detector and a data-recovery circuit. The defect detector is operable to identify a defective region of a data-storage medium, and the data-recovery circuit is operable to recover data from the data-storage medium in response to the defect detector. For example, such an embodiment may allow identifying a defective region of a data-storage disk caused, e.g., by a scratch or contamination, and may allow recovering data that was written to the defective region.
STORAGE CONTROL DEVICE, STORAGE SYSTEM AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING A STORAGE DEVICE
A storage control device configured to control a storage device including a plurality of groups each of which includes a plurality of storage regions, the storage control device includes a memory and a processor coupled to the memory and configured to store, into the memory, information associated with each of the plurality of groups and indicating whether an error region in which an error is detected is included in at least one of the plurality of storage regions of each of the plurality of groups, identify a first group including the error region from the plurality of groups based on the information associated with the plurality of groups, read data from a plurality of storage regions included in the identified first group, and identify the error region included in the first group based on the read data.
INFORMATION MEMORY DEVICE, FAILURE PREDICTING DEVICE AND FAILURE PREDICTING METHOD
According to one embodiment, physical position information on errors on a recording medium is acquired, physical position relationship between the errors on the recording medium is calculated based on the position information, and a failure mode related to the errors is determined based on the position relationship.
Detecting media defects
A method according to one embodiment includes instructing a drive to detect a written signal burst on a magnetic tape and stop movement of the tape in response to detecting the written signal burst. A search for a defect is conducted in a location proximate to the written signal burst. An apparatus according to one embodiment includes a plurality of detector structures positioned in an array. Each of the detector structures includes a pair of conductive layers separated by an insulating material. A write transducer is aligned with each of the detector structures. A controller is configured to cause one of the write transducers to write a signal burst in response to the associated detector structure encountering a defect.
Managing data associated with overwritten portions of previously-written tracks
A method includes writing first data on a first track of a data storage surface, and storing information for the first data in a memory other than the data storage surface. The method also includes performing a write operation on a second track of the data storage surface after the data is written on the first track. The second track is adjacent to the first track. The method further includes identifying potentially-overwritten sectors of the first track as a result of the performance of the write operation on the second track, and performing a first read operation on the identified potentially-overwritten sectors of the first track after completion of the write operation on the second track. Second data associated with the identified potentially-overwritten sectors is then stored in a solid-state memory, and mirrored to media.
MAGNETIC DISK DEVICE AND METHOD
According to one embodiment, first setting information and second setting information are stored in a memory included in a magnetic disk device. The first setting information indicates a second track that is a first track set to be disused on the basis of a defect inspection among a plurality of first tracks included in a magnetic disk. The second setting information indicates a third track selected from one or more first tracks different from the second track. In a case where an access destination is a user area, the controller converts logical address information into physical address information while slipping the second track and the third track. In a case where an access destination is a system area, the controller converts logical address information into physical address information while slipping all of the first tracks other than the third track among the plurality of first tracks.
Magnetic disk device stored trace data of the read/write processing
According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device incudes a first magnetic disk, a first actuator that reads/writes data from/to the first magnetic disk, a first controller that controls the first actuator, a second magnetic disk, a second actuator that reads/writes data from/to the second magnetic disk, a second controller that controls the second actuator, wherein the first controller executes read/write processing, and the second controller stores trace data of the read/write processing when the first controller executes the read/write processing.
Method, apparatus for processing disk bad sector, and computer storage medium
The present disclosure discloses a method, apparatus for processing a disk bad sector, and a computer storage medium. The method includes: obtaining a target disk that is to be processed, and detecting bad sector data in the target disk; combining bad sector areas represented by the bad sector data, to obtain a usable area different from the bad sector areas in the target disk; and determining, according to a detection result, whether the target disk is usable, reconstructing storage space of the target disk based on the usable area if the target disk is usable, and setting an access parameter for the reconstructed storage space. The technical solutions provided by the present disclosure can improve processing efficiency of a faulty disk while saving a disk resource.
