Compositions containing amniotic components and methods for preparation and use thereof
Compositions are provided that contain biologically active components of amniotic fluid including growth factors and other proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and metabolites. The compositions containing biologically active components of amniotic fluid can be useful for a range of therapeutic treatments including joint and soft tissue repair, regulation of skin condition, and for use in organ preservation, such as for use in organ transplant procedures. Advantages of the compositions include that they can be reproducibly produced, without the inherent variability of amniotic fluid from individual donors, and that they are free of fetal waste.
Methods and Compositions for Preserving the Viability of Photoreceptor Cells
Provided are methods and compositions for maintaining the viability of photoreceptor cells following retinal detachment. The viability of photoreceptor cells can be preserved by administering an apoptosis inhibitor to a mammal having an eye with retinal detachment. The apoptosis inhibitor maintains the viability of the photoreceptor cells until such time that the retina becomes reattached to the underlying retinal pigment epithelium and choroid. The treatment minimizes the loss of vision, which otherwise may occur as a result of retinal detachment.
Platelet Protection Solution Having Beta-Galactosidase and Sialidase Inhibitors
The present invention relates to a platelet protection solution (PPS) having an amount of one or more β-galactosidase inhibitors with or without an amount of one or more sialidase inhibitors, and optionally one or more glycan-modifying agents; and one or more of PPS components that include a salt, a citrate source, a carbon source, or any combination thereof.
PATHOGEN-INACTIVATED RED BLOOD CELL COMPOSITIONS
The present invention provides pathogen-inactivated red blood cell compositions.
ARGINASE INHIBITORS AND THEIR THERAPEUTIC APPLICATIONS
The inventive compounds are small molecule therapeutics that are potent inhibitors of arginase 1 and arginase 2 activity. The inventions also provides pharmaceutical compositions and methods for using the inventive compounds for treating or preventing a disease or condition associated with arginase activity.
PERMEATION OF WHOLE VERTEBRAL BODIES WITH A CRYOPROTECTANT USING VACUUM ASSISTED DIFFUSION
The present disclosure relates to, at least, a vacuum-assisted method for infiltrating cadaver bone with a cryoprotectant and a method for rapidly warming the cryopreserved cadaver bone for bone marrow processing.
COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR PRESERVING OR INCREASING PLATELET FUNCTION
Among the various aspects of the present disclosure is the provision of compositions and methods for platelet storage supplementation with an amino acid, such as taurine.
PREPARATION METHOD AND RECOVERY METHOD OF PARIDUVAL MESENCHYMAL STEM CELLS (PMSCs)
The present disclosure discloses a preparation method and a recovery method of pariduval mesenchymal stem cells (PMSCs). In the preparation method, a high-glucose Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM) that includes a Tryple-ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) enzyme of 40% to 60% in volume concentration and collagenase type II of 8 mg/ml to 12 mg/ml is used as a tissue digestion solution to digest tissue blocks, which facilitates PMSCs to climb out of the tissue blocks and grow adherently; and a serum-free DMEM is adopted as a selective medium to terminate the digestion and resuspend PMSCs, which helps to improve a purity of PMSCs, accelerate the growth of PMSCs, and achieve the rapid expansion of PMSCs in vitro.
STABILIZING COMPOSITION AND METHOD FOR PRESERVING A BODILY FLUID
An aqueous stabilizing composition for preserving a bodily fluid at ambient temperature is provided. The aqueous stabilizing composition comprises: a sugar selected from a monosaccharide, a disaccharide, or a combination thereof; a buffering agent; a C.sub.1-C.sub.6 alkanol; boric acid, a salt of boric acid, or a combination thereof; and a chelating agent; wherein the composition has a pH of from 4.5 to 5.2. A method for preserving a bodily fluid using the aqueous stabilizing composition is also provided, the method comprising: a) obtaining a sample of the bodily fluid; b) contacting the bodily fluid with the aqueous stabilizing composition to form a mixture; c) mixing the mixture of (b) to form a homogeneous mixture; and d) storing the homogeneous mixture at ambient temperature.
Endovascular apparatus for perfusing organs in a body
In one representative embodiment, a method of perfusing organs in a patient's body is provided. The method comprises isolating the visceral arteries and the visceral veins from blood circulating through the patient's heart and perfusing the visceral arteries, the visceral veins, and the abdominal organs with a perfusion fluid that is fluidly separated from the blood circulating through the patient's heart. While the visceral arteries and the visceral veins are isolated, and the visceral arteries, the visceral veins, and the abdominal organs are being perfused, the patient's blood is allowed to continue to circulate through the heart.
