The leak detector comprises a housing (110) with a flow passage (120) extending through the housing (110), one or more pairs of temperature sensors (130, 140) for detecting a temperature difference between an outside of the housing (110) and the flow passage (120), one temperature sensor of each pair being arranged towards an outer surface of the housing (110) and the other temperature sensor of the pair being arranged towards an innersurface of the housing (110) that faces the flow passage (120), and an array of electrically conductive wires (150, 160) that extend across the flow passage (120). The array of electrically conductive wires (150, 160) comprises one or more positive polarity wires and one or more negative polarity wires. The application further relates to a corresponding method of leak detection.

In a method for detecting the presence of water or additional water, which exists because of a leak, the following steps are carried out: attaching at least one pair of electrodes to/in an object, to/in the presence of water is to be determined; applying an electrical voltage between the electrodes; testing whether electrical current or electrical current that is increased relative to a basic current flows between the electrodes; and detecting the presence of water in the case of flowing current. When implementing the method, at least two electrodes are used, wherein one electrode can be a ground. The electrodes are arranged separated from one another. DC or AC voltage is applied to the electrodes by a device. The device detects a measured value corresponding to the intensity of the current flowing between the electrodes.

A fluid discharge event detection apparatus measures a change in capacitance to detect the presence of a fluid in a sensing conduit where the presence of fluid indicates a discharge event. The apparatus includes a first conduit, the sensing conduit and a control valve, coupled between the first conduit and the sensing conduit. The control valve is configured to activate and fluidly couple the first conduit and the sensing conduit to one another when the control valve detects at least one predetermined condition of a fluid within the first conduit. A sensor, configured to measure a capacitance value, is disposed about the sensing conduit. A controller, coupled to the sensor, is configured to detect a change in the sensing conduit capacitance value and assert an alarm condition upon detection of the change in the sensing conduit capacitance value.

A system configured to detect failure of a hose includes a sensor assembly having a body with a first arm and a second arm pivotally coupled to one another at respective first ends, and the body is configured to move between a closed position and an open position. The sensor assembly also includes a first electrical contact positioned at a respective second end of the first arm and a second electrical contact position at a respective second end of the second arm. The first electrical contact and the second electrical contact are configured to contact one another to form a complete electrical circuit when the body is in the closed position and are configured to be separated from one another to form an open electrical circuit when the body is in the open position to facilitate detection of the failure of the hose.

The electrochemical cell can enter an active state when exposed to water. The electrochemical cell can be configured to generate electrical power in the active state. The leak detection sensor can further include a peripheral electronic component configured to receive electrical power produced by the electrochemical cell. The self-powered leak detection sensor is configured for, and related methods include, detecting exposure to water in response to electrical energy generation of the electrochemical cell.
